Hippocrates (460 BC to 377 BC), On Articulations
“Acquire the knowledge of the spine, for this is the requisate to understanding many diseases.”
The ‘Reflex Recoil Adjustment’ is a specific vertebral adjustment that was developed by Hugh Corley and is unique to McTimoney-Corley trained practitioners.
In common with many other methods the principle characteristics of the McTimoney-Corley technique are that it is a gentle holistic ‘whole body‘ approach. Many patients favour this gentle holistic method.
McTimoney-Corley practitioners perform a gentle form of treatment that coaxes the skeletal system into re-alignment. The treatment is holistic will work from head to toe. Wherever necessary soft tissue techniques will be performed to enhance the treatment.
Osteomyology is a unique form of therapy. It's diagnostic procedures are based primarily on muscloskeletal balance. This allows Osteomyologists to trace the root cause of any osteomyological dysfunction, thereby allowing them to treat the dysfunction both speedily and effectively.
Treatment procedures contain the gentler elements of Chiropractic manipulative therapy and Osteopathic techniques together with techniques drawn from a wide range of holistic medicine. All Osteomyologist are registered with the General Council of Osteomyology.
Poor, inadequate incorrect function of the spine can cause irritation of the nerves that control our posture and movement. This spinal stress may be caused by an accident, lack of exercise, poor posture or anxiety, and lead to discomfort, pain and even disease. By adjusting joints and the vertebral spine osteomyologists can help put the body back into it’s natural alignment.
Osteomyology and manipulative treatment can be helpful for the following conditions:
Depending on where in the spine the nerve irritation occurs symptoms may include one or more of the following:
Your first consultation will begin by the practitioner taking a complete case history, and conduction an appropriate physical examination in order to make a full diagnosis of the complaint.
The treatment and the expectations will then be explained to you, and any questions that you have will be answered. The aim of any course of treatment is to help the body realign itself by manipulating the bones of the spine and other joints of the body. The appropriate muscles will also be worked on and correct nerve function will be restored resulting in improvement of health.
If an underlying condition is diagnosed for which another type of treatment is appropriate, or referring to a specialist is required, you will be referred to your G.P.
Both McTimoney-Corley manipulations and Osteomyology are suitable for everyone including newborn babies, the elderly, pregnant women, and sports enthusiasts. However it can be very helpful in providing additional relief for chronic conditions.

Any reference to Chiropractic is due to the fact that the art and science of McTimoney Chiropractic and hence McTimoney-Corley is a direct descendant of the Grandfather of Chiropractic. Daniel D. Palmer in 1895 performed the first chiropractic adjustment using the Toggle Recoil Adjustment (TRA).
